Trung shines with LPI Career Development Award!

We are beyond excited to share that our talented PhD student, Trung, has been honored with the prestigious Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) Career Development Award! This award is a tribute to his research and dedication, recognizing outstanding graduate students who have submitted a first-author abstract for presentation at the 56th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (LPSC) in 2025.

LPI announcement annotates the 2025 award as “This year, the LPI received applications from numerous countries across the globe, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Morocco, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The selection process was highly competitive, highlighting the outstanding quality of research being conducted by early-career planetary scientists worldwide.”

Trung Nguyen said that - “It is my honor to receive the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) Career Development Award for the upcoming Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (LPSC 2025) in Texas, USA. I was selected through a competitive process and will be speaking and presenting my research on Mars to the leading planetary scientists. This recognition not only validates my research on Martian geochemistry and planetary processes but also reinforces my passion to advancing space science. I am excited to represent my work on a global stage and look forward to the inspiring discussions and collaborations ahead! 🚀🔬”

Trung's award-winning research is a crucial part of our PI Merve’s Swedish Research Council project (VR-2021-05859), which focuses on the water retention ability of near surface icy environments of Mars. Our PI Merve expressed that - “As the PI, I am thrilled to see Trung's hard work and dedication recognized with this prestigious award. His innovative approach and commitment to research excellence have been instrumental in advancing our research. This achievement not only highlights Trung's talents but also reveals the innovative research is going on in the Yesilbas lab.”
